Ashton's Puddle

Ashton's Puddle is a whimsical children's book about a lovable feline who gets stuck in a mud puddle during his adventure in the great outdoors! I developed the character for the story based around the interests of the author's son, Ashton. For the main character the author and I decided to go with his favorite animal and colour. The cat character was perfect for the story, since it added a whole new level of humor to the book. Seeing a cat playing in a puddle of mud is simply not in its nature and was comical to illustrate!

The illustrations were created using soft watercolours to create vibrant and playful imagery. I enjoyed creating the character and found it entertaining bringing both the story and the character to life with his expressions. I kept the illustrations clean and simple placing emphasis on the character's current situation and problem at hand.

 

 I would like to personally thank Kelly Wadden for selecting me as the illustrator for Ashton's Puddle.

And a special thank you to her son who inspired the whole story! Throughout the book you will see Ashton's toy "Meme" a tiny little creature made to fit in his pocket.
